Great news! We got approved for a mortgage today! This means my dream of getting a new car sooner, which was almost dashed last week, is back on! Turns out being a full time student counts as job history. I thought we were not going to qualify and I would have to wait until after we had rented for a year to reapply then take on the debt. While talking to my insurance guy about getting our 2 current cars covered I asked about the cars I’m looking at. He said that the WRX and BRZ are both in the “high performance” sector and will cost me about $100 a month to insure on top of my LS and the wife’s RX. He then told me to get a Miata because they are cheap to insure... the answer is always Miata. So basically I was told to get a 2 door convertible by my insurance guy because its half of the cost to insure a car that’s just as fast(BRZ) but a hard top. Darn kids always wrecking Toyobaru twin cars...

With the BRZ, this feels like it’s more about the typical Toyobaru buyer than it is the car itself...
Congrats on mortgage approval - found a house yet, or just getting set to look?

congrats. yeah theyll usually count your school history as long as you are employed in the field you got a degree in. otherwise doctors would only be able to buy houses in cash when they turn 50.

Actually as of a few minutes we have a lead. We’re in a really rough market for buyers but we’re living for free right now and our lead isn’t selling for a month and a half. It may work perfect.

Nice! It’s easier said than done, but don’t be rushed by a seller’s market - - you have to live with it, after all- good luck!

So mx5 RF?

Nah. I’m still thinking WRX. Unless Miata does become the answer...

My Audi S3, newer, with an additional 100hp and expensive German parts is only $5/mo more to insure than my BRZ. Let that sink in.
I remember my Miata’s insurance rates - they were dirt cheap!
